A writing retreat house provides you with an environment optimal for your writing. You will be given uninterrupted time. You will have freedom from life distractions. You will have writer housemates who share your passion for writing, who will provide you with riveting conversation and creative understanding.
An artist retreat house is the same, but instead of just writers, there are also musicians and painters.

When it comes to cost and applications, there are two basic kinds of retreat houses:
1. With applications far in advance. If accepted, usually less expensive.
2. With rolling applications. Usually more expensive.
And then there are the fair few which are both cheap and have rolling admissions (where I, the poor and spontaneous Lev, am happily residing).

Your experience will differ depending on the length of your stay. While a short stay may be extremely intense and focused, a longer stay is like early retirement.

I am currently traveling across America (and perhaps internationally soon), living in writing retreat houses. I love it.
